Course Details

This BRAND NEW course from the American Heart Association has been updated to reflect new science based on the 2010 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC.

HeartCode® BLS is an official, self-directed, comprehensive eLearning program from the American Heart Association (AHA). This program uses eSimulation technology to present realistic patient scenarios. Students are presented with 5 BLS cases and an online multiple-choice written exam. While interacting with the program, students assess each patient, formulate a treatment plan based on 2010 BLS guidelines, and provide treatment. Successful completion of Part 1, the cognitive component, and Parts 2 and 3, skills practice and testing with an AHA BLS Instructor or a voice-assisted manikin (VAM) system, are the requirements for obtaining an AHA BLS Healthcare Provider course completion card.

Part 1, the cognitive portion of HeartCode® BLS, focuses on what healthcare providers need to know to perform CPR in a wide variety of in- and out-of hospital settings:

  1. Initiating the Chain of Survival
  2. Performing prompt, high-quality chest compressions for adult, child, and infant victims
  3. Initiating early use of an AED
  4. Providing appropriate rescue breaths
  5. Practicing 2-rescuer team CPR
  6. Relieving choking

In Parts 2 and 3, the student will demonstrate proficiency in providing BLS skills, including prioritizing chest compressions and integrating AED use. Successful completion of Heartcode® BLS includes three course parts :

NRP Provider Course & Course Preparation

 The new, extensively updated Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) offers education based on the 2010 American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)/American Heart Association (AHA) “Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care: Neonatal Resuscitation Guidelines.” It is designed for any healthcare professionals involved in the delivery and care of newborns. This is a hands on course that requires online test completion prior to coming to the course. 

AAP HAS RESTRUCTURED NRP TO NOW REQUIRE COMPLETION OF AN ONLINE EXAMINATION PRIOR TO ATTENDING THE NRP COURSE. Purchase your online from  www.aap.org/nrp

 

NRP has been reformatted to require students to take an active role in their learning. The new 6th Edition format requires that ALL STUDENTS MUST COMPLETE THE ONLINE 6TH EDITION NRP EXAMINATION PRIOR TO THEIR SCHEDULED CLASS. YOU MUST BRING YOUR COMPLETED EXAMINATION CERTIFICATE TO CLASS IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE IN THE NRP COURSE. THE NRP COURSE MUST BE TAKEN WITHIN 30 DAYS OF COMPLETING THE ONLINE EXAMINATION. Additionally, there is no longer a distinction between certification and renewal. All students will take the online examination and then participate in the same activities at the NRP Course. However, participation will be tailored to the experience of the student.

In order to complete the online examination, you will need to purchase or have access to the new textbook. It is available through our website at registration. The textbook is 329 pages and includes a DVD to watch. Please allow enough study time prior to taking the examination and registering for your NRP Course.

PHLEBOTOMY TECHNICIAN

In this course students will be able to demonstrate various methods of Phlebotomy such as; vacuum method for venous blood withdrawal, an autolet blood withdrawal for glucose level, the proper use of a microhematocrit centrifuge, proper use of a hemogloginometer and obtain a hemoglobin level. In addition students will learn the proper use of a glucometer to obtain a glucose level. Identify and label the parts of the most common diagnostic laboratory equipment, use basic skills in context of therapeutic and lab procedures.

Note: The Phlebotomy Technician Certification program (CPT) is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
