What Does This Course Teach?
This course covers a wide range of essential topics for advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), including:
- Systems of care and their role in patient outcomes
- The use of Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) or Medical Emergency Teams (METs) to improve outcomes
- The impact of team dynamics on performance and patient care
- Effective communication as both a team member and leader in high-performance teams
- Delivery of prompt, high-quality Basic Life Support (BLS), emphasizing early chest compressions and AED integration
- Systematic evaluation using the BLS, Primary, and Secondary Assessment sequences
- Early recognition and management of acute coronary syndromes and stroke, including appropriate disposition
- Early identification and treatment of respiratory arrest
- Recognition and early intervention for bradycardia and tachycardia that may lead to or complicate cardiac arrest
- Management of cardiac arrest, including post-cardiac arrest care and decisions about termination of resuscitation or transfer of care
- Continuous assessment of CPR quality and patient response, including real-time feedback during resuscitative efforts

Once you complete the online portion, show up for your skills appointment. If none of the available dates work for you, reach out to arrange an alternative. Be sure to mention that you're part of Mount Sinai Morningside/West and that your name appears on the approved roster for CURRENT residents. Once you're registered, we'll contact you within 24 hours to confirm your registration. After confirmation and a review of the terms and conditions, we’ll send you the necessary links.
Need BLS Certification Too?
You can also obtain your BLS for Healthcare Providers card as part of this course. Simply:
- Add the AHA BLS Healthcare Provider Online Course from the menu below.
- Complete Part 1 online.
- Email your completion certificate. You will be skills tested same day as the ACLS.
