Basic Life Support (BLS) Course

This course is designed for Healthcare Professionals who need to know how to perform CPR and other lifesaving skills in a variety of in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings. It is often required by many hospitals, schools, and medical programs. Nursing students, EMT students, PA students, and others in the medical field will typically need to be certified in BLS either before or during their training.

This course is an educational program jointly sponsored by the American Heart Association (AHA).

What This Course Covers:

  • Adult and pediatric CPR
  • Two-rescuer scenarios and use of the bag-valve mask
  • Foreign-body airway obstruction (conscious and unconscious)
  • Automated external defibrillation (AED) (includes child AED update)
  • Special resuscitation situations
  • Other cardiopulmonary emergencies
  • Stroke and cardiac arrest

This course is designed for healthcare professionals who hold a valid AHA ACLS provider card that is within 90 days of expiration. Students will receive a didactic review and hands-on practice of both the BLS and ACLS courses. Competency will be assessed through Mega Code Station skills testing and written exams. This is a FULL day course with BLS in the morning, and ACLS in the afternoon.

BLS Course Covers:

  • Adult and pediatric CPR
  • Two-rescuer scenarios and use of the bag-valve mask
  • Foreign-body airway obstruction (conscious and unconscious)
  • Automated external defibrillation (includes child AED update)
  • Special resuscitation situations

The Qualitative Respiratory Mask fit testing ensures a tight, effective, and customized fit for your face to protect you from airborne contaminants.The fit testing is mandatory for many schools, hospitals, institutions that follow OSHA guidelines.

Upon successful completion, you will receive a N95 card.

Please register and contact the office to schedule your fit testing date and time. Appointments are limited, you can NOT just show up. You MUST call the office.

 

Students are responsible for providing their own N95 respiratory masks for upcoming sessions. Please ensure that the mask you bring is a genuine N95, approved by your institution.

Key Requirements:

  • Proper Fit: Bring a variety of mask sizes to test for proper fit during the session.

  • Condition: Ensure the mask is new and unused.

  • Where to Purchase: If you are unable to obtain an N95 mask, you may purchase one from CPR123, we carry the 3M 1860 mask.

Facial Hair Guideline Requirements:

OSHA does not permit the use of respirators with tight-fitting facepieces to be worn by individuals with facial hair. Facial hair between the skin and face seal of the respirator will interfere with the seal of the respirator. Facial hair can impact the effectiveness of the face seal. If you have facial hair, please note that a fit-test CANNOT be performed if:

  • you have a beard
  • you have more than one day's hair growth on your face

Tips for those with facial hair:

  • shave the morning of the fit-test
  • continue to shave daily while you are required to wear an N-95 respirator

Important: If you are a Nursing Staff, please contact Nurse Education before you register for this course. This would pertain to the following roles: RN, LPN, PCA, PCT, Surgical Tech, BHA, RT etc...Do NOT register before contacting Nurse Education for further clarification. You have the option to sign up for the course at a discounted price.

Once you are registered, you will receive a confirmation email. If the dates does not work for you, please contact us for more dates at our office.

1. You have the option to add on the Online BLS if you need it. You can complete the BLS online, and get skills tested for the BLS on the day of your ACLS/PALS class. You must add on the BLS to the registration; students must bring their certificate of completion to be skills tested! If you do not receive your key code and if you need it right away, feel free to call us at the office.

2. Do NOT add on the Online BLS if you do NOT need it. If you need to change the date or add on the BLS after registering, do NOT re-register. Please call the office so that we can assist you. 516-640-5372.

3. You must also note your Title and Department in the comments section.  Failure to do so can result in cancellation of your registration.

4. For all Kings County paid Residents and Fellows, if you have 3 months or less left on your contract, you will be responsible for the cost of the training. CPR123 will contact you for payment after registration is submitted.

 This course covers a wide range of essential topics for advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), including:

  • Systems of care and their role in patient outcomes
  • The use of Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) or Medical Emergency Teams (METs) to improve outcomes
  • The impact of team dynamics on performance and patient care
  • Effective communication as both a team member and leader in high-performance teams
  • Delivery of prompt, high-quality Basic Life Support (BLS), emphasizing early chest compressions and AED integration
  • Systematic evaluation using the BLS, Primary, and Secondary Assessment sequences
  • Early recognition and management of acute coronary syndromes and stroke, including appropriate disposition
  • Early identification and treatment of respiratory arrest
  • Recognition and early intervention for bradycardia and tachycardia that may lead to or complicate cardiac arrest
  • Management of cardiac arrest, including post-cardiac arrest care and decisions about termination of resuscitation or transfer of care
  • Continuous assessment of CPR quality and patient response, including real-time feedback during resuscitative efforts
