Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) – Advance Your Trauma Care Skills

Master Life-Saving Trauma Nursing Techniques

In trauma and emergency nursing, every second counts. The Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) is a premier, evidence-based training program developed by the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA). Designed specifically for registered nurses (RNs), this course equips healthcare professionals with the critical thinking skills, systematic assessment techniques, and hands-on training needed to provide high-quality trauma care. The primary goal of TNCC is to enhance patient outcomes by improving nurses’ ability to assess, stabilize, and manage trauma patients in high-pressure situations.

What to Expect from TNCC Training

TNCC provides a comprehensive approach to trauma patient care, ensuring nurses receive both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The course begins with self-paced online learning modules, allowing participants to study core trauma concepts at their convenience. These modules include a step-by-step breakdown of the Trauma Nursing Process (TNP) and a detailed study guide to reinforce learning.

Following the online portion, participants attend an instructor-led classroom session, typically conducted over one and a half days. This in-person training includes interactive discussions and hands-on skills stations, where nurses practice trauma assessments, rapid intervention techniques, and critical decision-making strategies.

Successful completion of the course requires passing both a written exam and a psychomotor skills test based on the Trauma Nursing Process (TNP). Upon passing, participants receive an internationally recognized TNCC provider verification, valid for four years.

Why Choose TNCC Certification?

TNCC is the gold standard for trauma nursing education, offering an evidence-based curriculum developed by trauma nursing experts. The course content is regularly updated to reflect advancements in trauma care practices, ensuring that nurses are equipped with the most up-to-date knowledge and skills.

Earning your TNCC certification can significantly boost your confidence in handling trauma cases, enabling you to provide more effective and timely care. Additionally, TNCC participants are eligible to receive 19.5 Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) hours, which contribute to professional development and licensure requirements.

Who Can Take TNCC?

The TNCC course is designed for registered nurses (RNs), who are eligible for full TNCC provider status verification upon successful completion. Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and paramedics are also welcome to enroll and participate in all portions of the course. However, they will not receive provider status verification, only CNE hours.

It is recommended that participants have at least six months of clinical experience in an emergency or trauma setting before taking TNCC. A fundamental understanding of nursing knowledge, emergency terminology, and standard trauma equipment is also beneficial for a successful learning experience.

How to Get Your TNCC Certification

To become a certified TNCC provider, start by registering for a TNCC course at a location near you. Upon registration, you will receive access to the required pre-course online modules, allowing you to learn at your own pace before the in-person training.

Next, attend the instructor-led classroom session, where you will participate in case-based learning, skills practice, and trauma patient simulations. The final step is to successfully complete the TNCC written exam and Trauma Nursing Process (TNP) psychomotor skills test. Once you pass, you will receive your TNCC provider verification, which remains valid for four years.

Advance Your Nursing Career with TNCC

Earning your TNCC Verification is a valuable step in advancing your nursing career and enhancing your ability to provide life-saving trauma care. This course is designed to build confidence, improve patient outcomes, and prepare nurses for the fast-paced challenges of emergency trauma care.

The Qualitative Respiratory Mask fit testing ensures a tight, effective, and customized fit for your face to protect you from airborne contaminants. The fit testing is mandatory for many schools, hospitals, and institutions that follow OSHA guidelines.

Upon successful completion, you will receive an N95 certificate.

Facial Hair Guideline Requirements:

OSHA does not permit the use of respirators with tight-fitting facepieces to be worn by individuals with facial hair. Facial hair between the skin and the face seal of the respirator will interfere with the seal of the respirator. Facial hair can impact the effectiveness of the face seal. If you have facial hair, please note that a fit test CANNOT be performed if:

  • you have a beard
  • you have more than one day's hair growth on your face

Tips for those with facial hair:

  • shave the morning of the fit-test
  • continue to shave daily while you are required to wear an N-95 respirator

Please refer to OSHA, 29 CFR 1910.134(g)(1)(i)(A)
